FLAC
Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) is an open format highly suitable for transcoding without quality loss (lossless compression). The FLAC specification includes a wrapper for FLAC bitstreams plus the lossless compression codec itself. FLAC can be used as a dissemination/delivery format, but is also a suitable format for the archival storage of audio streams. Adoption is moderate. FLAC is a DANS preferred format for audio, because of its lossless compression of digital audio, but adoption is moderate.
